Diversity Awards & Recognition
- In Spring 2009, MultiCultural Law magazine ranked Nixon Peabody LLP among the “Top 100 Law Firms for Diversity.” In this annual ranking recognizing the nation’s top firms for excellence in ensuring diversity and inclusion in the legal profession, Nixon Peabody not only earned distinction as a top firm overall, but the firm’s efforts were also acknowledged earning a spot on the “Top 100 Law Firms for Women.”
- The Albany office received The Capital Region Human Resource Association (CRHRA) Top Five Spectrum Award in 2008 and 2007.
- The Washington office was selected by the Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) to receive the 2007 Thomas L. Sager Award for the Mid-Atlantic region in recognition of Nixon Peabody’s sustained commitment to diversity and minority issues, especially in regards to the hiring, retention, and promotion of minority attorneys.
- Recognized with the highest rating of 100% by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index on gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender equality in corporate America
- The Association of the Bar for the City of New York’s “2006 Law Firm Diversity Benchmarking Report” rated Nixon Peabody well above average with regard to racial and ethnic minorities. Our NYC office’s racial and ethnic minorities account for 20.65% of the firm’s attorneys— 9.09% of the partnership, and 34.2% of our associates. Our NYC office is also above average with women representing 50% of our associates. The firm is one of 93 signatories of the New York City Bar Association’s Statement of Diversity Principles.
- Received Business Leadership Award from the Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley (in greater Rochester, NY) in recognition of advancing equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals in the workplace
- The New Hampshire Cultural Diversity Awareness Council (NHCDAC) presented Nixon Peabody with its “Best Practice for Diversity” award in reecognition of the firm’s dedication and commitment to increasing awareness of the need for communication, understanding, and respect among people of ethnically and racially diverse backgrounds.
- In 2005, the National Bar Association appointed a Nixon Peabody partner to be chairman of its Corporate Diversity Initiative Task Force, which is developing initiatives to increase diversity in law firms nationwide.
- In 2004, the National Bar Association awarded Nixon Peabody, as well as one of our partners, the Presidential Award for demonstrating a sustained commitment to diversity.
